Textti — First online fabric store in Colombia
Colombia's first online fabric marketplace. Built during the pandemic when nobody sold fabrics online. From zero to a profitable, one-person operation powered entirely by organic traffic.
Visit textti.comA traditional industry stuck offline
In 2020, Colombia's fabric industry was entirely offline. Hundreds of fabric stores operated in physical locations, but not a single one had a real e-commerce presence. Buyers had to physically visit stores, compare prices in person, and carry heavy rolls of fabric home.
The pandemic made physical shopping impossible overnight. Meanwhile, I had deep knowledge of the fabric industry from working in my uncle's store during school breaks, plus years of experience building websites. The opportunity was clear: become the first to sell fabrics online in Colombia.
The challenge was not just building a store, but creating an entirely new buying behavior. Colombian fabric buyers had never purchased textiles online. Trust, product visualization, and logistics all needed to be solved from scratch.
A lean, SEO-first digital operation
Instead of investing in inventory and warehousing, I built a capital-light model: customers order online, my team purchases the exact fabrics from wholesale stores in Bogota's La Alqueria district, and ships directly. The entire process is invisible to the customer.
Growth was 100% organic. No paid ads, no social media marketing. I focused obsessively on SEO, building detailed product pages optimized for every fabric-related search term in Colombia. The site was named "Telas Bogota" initially, which naturally captured search intent.
Over time, I built custom systems to handle everything a team would normally do: automated order processing with n8n, a custom ERP built on Supabase and Next.js, a custom slide cart replacing expensive plugins, and a fully custom checkout flow.
Consistent growth, zero paid acquisition
Real traffic verified through Google Search Console, more than double what third-party tools estimate.
Ranking for thousands of fabric-related search terms across Colombia, with 904 in the top 3 positions.
Consistent monthly order volume across seasons, with peaks reaching significantly higher during Q3-Q4.
The remaining 10% comes from WhatsApp and Mercado Libre, but the site is the dominant channel.
Built authority purely through content quality, not link building campaigns. Still outperforms higher-DR competitors.
Over 1.5 million search impressions per month, establishing Textti as a recognized name in the industry.

What 6+ years of solo operation taught me
First mover advantage is real, but not enough
Being first to market gave Textti a massive head start in SEO and brand recognition. But competitors eventually caught up with lower prices and bigger teams. The moat has to be constantly reinforced with better technology and customer experience.
Physical businesses have a ceiling
Despite being an online store, Textti requires physical presence in Bogota to source fabrics. This geographic dependency limits scalability and is the primary reason I started building purely digital businesses alongside it.
Systems replace teams
By building custom automation (ERP, cart, checkout, order processing), one person can handle what would normally require 3-4 employees. The upfront investment in systems pays compound returns in operational efficiency.
SEO compounds like interest
Six years of consistent SEO work means Textti now ranks for thousands of terms with zero ongoing ad spend. Every piece of content built over the years continues generating traffic and sales today.
